The Department of Character Protective Services was created as something of an offshoot of the PPC, with shared technology and limited interaction. It has since evolved into two divisions, one notable for its Field service and the other loyal to the original, office-format Counseling focus. It is headed by the Asphodel and made up of both full-time case-workers as well as agents, all of whom work to help and protect a specific character or characters.
This list of agents in the department is mainly taken from the PPC Information Directory and therefore may be neither complete nor up-to-date.
Field Division
The Field Division is the more standard division of the DCPS. Its agents are tasked with protecting specific characters, going into the field and dispatching badfic much like the other departments. Agents in the Field Division are often also employed by other departments, working for the DCPS in a secondary function.
The Department for Elf Protection was merged with the DCPS Field Division.
Counseling Division
The Counseling Division of the DCPS is located in a series of large rooms full of cubicles. Unlike the Field Division and other departments, the DCPS CD does not interact directly with badfic or provide agents with RCs or other standard equipment. Instead, each agent is assigned to a cubicle which quickly becomes highly personalized, the content and appearance (i.e. beanbag chairs) focused on putting visiting characters at ease. Typically one senior agent oversees the activity of the room at large, accepting reports and informing the other agents when their work is needed. In larger continua, such as Lord of the Rings, an entire room or section of cubicles is dedicated to the service of that particular fandom, but those of lesser need are likewise clustered with others of similar situation, or even assigned multiple per agent, dependent on need.
