This has happened so many times. You have no idea.

The Super Mario Universe is possibly the biggest series in all of video gaming, with literally hundreds of titles. Surprisingly, it has a relatively simplistic story line that basically repeats itself throughout the series, with some exceptions. The Donkey Kong and Yoshi's Island series take place within this universe.

Super Mario Bros. minis are mini-Goombas.

In CanonEdit

The main Super Mario titles have very similar recurring plots:

  1. Bowser (or King Koopa) kidnaps Princess Peach to take over the Mushroom Kingdom.
  2. Mario and Luigi travel to Bowser's castle to rescue Peach.

That's pretty much the gist of it.

Some of the RPG titles do have more fleshed-out storylines, and allow the player to explore the Mushroom Kingdom rather than traveling down two-dimensional corridors. There are also many, many side titles focused around mini-games, sports and kart racing, which may or may not have anything akin to plot (typically not).

There have been a couple of cartoon series based on the games, as well as a 1993 live-action movie that no one likes to talk about, for some reason.

In BadficEdit

SMBMovie

This is definitely an AU, but that doesn't make it badfic-bad!

Due to how saturated pop culture is with Mario references and the nearly blank slates of the canon and its characters, Super Mario fanfiction pretty much sees a little bit of just about everything the fandom can throw at it. Many stories try to novelize the events of the games, providing more realistic personalities to the characters and describing the political conflicts between the Mushroom Kingdom and the Koopas' lands. This can wind up interesting or ridiculous, depending on the writing.

This series is very frequently crossed with other video game continua. It also sees "Real World person falls into the Mushroom Kingdom" plots fairly regularly.

Missions in this ContinuumEdit

All reports are listed alphabetically by agent name, in the case of agents with multiple missions, or by mission name.

Agents Specialized in this ContinuumEdit

Agents are considered specialized in a continuum when they have handled at least three missions in the canon. Most of these agents are also active/specialized in other continua. It is often not the agents who decide where their specialty lies, but the Flowers that keep assigning missions to them.

Agents Not yet Specialized in this ContinuumEdit

Agents with fewer than three missions in this continuum are not specialised, yet. They probably soon will be.
